MAKING LEGISLATION WORK FOR YOUR GROUP

    Legislation is a world onto itself. Understanding the process is a critical first step to having a voice.

    A look at what drives, influences and controls the outcome of legislation.

    Understanding the factors that influence legislators and their views on issues.

 

THE SECRET TO GETTING GRANTS

  1. Grants 101
    Understanding the basics of grants and what makes a viable grant application vastly increases the odds of success.

    The nuts and bolts of how, what, when, and why in applying for a grant.

 

TRAIL DEVELOPMENT PROCESS

  1. The basics
    Understanding the process, the challenges and the interests that must be addressed in developing a new trail.  Why does it take so long to bring that trail to life.
  2. Working with the authorities to develop trails
    How to work with the powers-that-be to help make the trail serve the community and provide the  best recreational experience possible.
  3. Trail design elements
    Different trail users have different needs.  Approaches to trail design that can serve diverse user groups, and considerations that impact trail design.

 

TRAIL MANAGEMENT

What constitutes trail management, who has the authority to manage, best practices for working  with the trail management authorities for the benefit of all user groups.

 

ADDRESSING AND RESOLVING TRAIL ISSUES

Best practices for preventing issues from becoming problems, and resolving problems within user groups and between user groups.  Dealing with issues between user groups and land owners, land managers and governmental agencies.

 

TRAIL PARTNERSHIPS TO IMPROVE AND MAINTAIN TRAIL ACCESS

  1. Identify other user groups, identifying common causes and issues, understanding the needs, and realities, of various user groups.
  2.  Successful mechanisms for finding ways to work together, help each other, and  Working with other trail user groups to preserve, maintain and enhance trails and the trail experience.

 

WILD HORSE ISSUE

A working example of how divergent interests are coming together to find a solution to a problem with no easy solutions. A study of what works, what does not, and the lessons that can be applied to other situations that can impact any user group.

 

EDUCATING LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS

Creating specialized training programs for law enforcement that provide knowledge in areas that the officer would not otherwise have any training or experience in that will enable them to better resolve certain situations that they may face.

 

TRAIL STEWARD PROGRAMS

Trail steward programs increase trail enjoyment, promote trail use and preservation, and enhance your group's visibility, while providing an activity that your entire group can participate in.  Learn how trail steward programs operate, and the many benefits that arise out of them.

 

GROWING MEMBERSHIP - ATTRACTING YOUNGER MEMBERS
